Call for Papers - 1st Conference of the British Association of Korean Language Education (BAKLE)

The British Association of Korean Language Education (BAKLE) is a newly established academic organization dedicated to advancing the study and teaching of the Korean language in the UK. BAKLE was founded to provide a platform for collaboration, professional development and scholarly exchange. Its launch event, the Symposium for Korean Language Educators in UK Higher Education took place in September 2024 at the University of Leeds.

BAKLE is pleased to announce its inaugural conference, to be held at the University of Lancashire in Preston on 18-19 September 2025. This conference aims to bring together educators, researchers and professionals engaged in Korean language education and Korean Studies to foster academic exchange, discuss innovative methodologies and build a collaborative network for the advancement of Korean language education in the UK and beyond.

Conference Topics

We invite submissions on a wide range of topics related to Korean language education,

including but not limited to:

• Innovative pedagogies in Korean language education

• Technology in language teaching and learning

• Material development for Korean language instruction

• Curriculum design for Korean programmes

• Language assessment and evaluation

• Multilingualism and intercultural communication

• Inclusive language teaching practices

• Professor Jaehoon Yeon (Honorary professor, SOAS, University of London)

• Abstract submission deadline: 25 May 2025

• Notifications of acceptance: June 2025

Submission Guidelines

Abstracts should be no more than 300 words and must include the title, author(s), affiliation(s), and contact information. Submissions should be uploaded via Google Forms through this link by the abstract submission deadline on 25 May 2025. 

Anyone interested in attending the conference without giving a presentation may use the same link to apply for complimentary accommodation during the event by 25 May 2025.
