대통령 초청 영어봉사 장학생 프로그램
- Let's TaLK : Teach and Learn in Korea -

○ 어떤 프로그램인가?
- 400명 내외의 해외 교포 대학생 영어 자원봉사자를 초청하여 국내 대학생과 1:1 팀을 구성, 농산어촌 및 저소득층 밀집지역 초등학교에 배치하여 방과 후 활동 등의 영어교육 활동에 참여하면서 한국문화 및 한국어 습득 기회도 가질 수 있는 프로그램
- 4-6주의 오리엔테이션 후 6개월에서 1년 동안 1주 15시간 영어교육 활동에 참여

○ 지원 자격 :
- 영어를 모국어로 사용하는 국가 국적자 (시민권자) 또는 영주권자
- 현지 4년제 대학에서 2년 이상의 대학교육을 수료한 재학생
- 금번 학기(‘08년 1학기) 졸업예정자
- 2년제 대학(커뮤니티 칼리지) 및 대학원생
- 2학년 수료/졸업예정자 및 기 졸업자

- 신체 및 정신이 건강하며, 한국에 관심이 많은 자

○ 다양한 편익 제공 : 왕복 항공료, 숙박 및 체제비 50만원, 월 활동비 150만원, 한국문화체험 프로그램 제공, 한국어교육 무상 제공, 대통령 명의의 인증서 수여

○ 지원 기간 : 2008년 5월 1일 - 2008년 6월 15일

○ 시작 시기 : 2008년 7월 중

○ 제출서류 및 양식 : 지원서(자기건강진술서,자기소개서 포함), 성적증명서, 재학증명서, 추천서, 범법사실증명서, 시민권, 영주권 사본/여권 사본

Let's TaLK : Teach and Learn in Korea
-Teach English on Korean Governments’ Scholarship


◆ What is the program about?
The ‘TaLK’ program invites undergraduate students to 'Teach English on Korean Government Scholarship'. The program is sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Participants teach English in after school classes of Korean elementary schools at rural areas.
Term Teaching activities last for six months or one year, starting July 2008.

◆ Who can apply?
Those who fulfill the following requirements are eligible :
1.Overseas Korean residents of English native speakers
2.Undergraduate students who have completed two or more years of education at an accredited college or university
* Ethnic Koreans who are in the 1st or 2nd year of college/university are eligible also
* University graduates and graduate school students are eligible also

◆ How do students participate?
Over a 4~6 week orientation program prior to the official term of teaching, participants will get an opportunity to learn about Korea and acquire basic teaching skills.
An Orientation program includes Understanding Korea, Life in Korea, English teaching methodology, Classroom management, etc.
→ If necessary, additional training course will be available.

Participants will teach practical English (speaking, listening, and writing) in after-school classes of elementary schools at rural areas, by forming one-to-one working partnerships with selected Korean participants.

Participants will teach 15 hours per week from Monday to Friday (5 days a week/3 hours per day) and are not required to work on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays of the Republic of Korea.

◆ What are the program’s benefits?
This is a fabulous opportunity for undergraduate students to experience and understand Korea, while teaching English to Korean students who seek greater exposure to the language

: Return tickets will not be provided for unfulfilled contract terms

: Allowance Approximately 1.5 million Korean won (about 1,500 USD) per month

: Using the weekends and other free time, participants may enjoy cultural experience programs including travel, traditional Korean arts and music, etc
-Pride of being a Korean Government Scholar
: A ‘Korean Government Scholarship’ certificate will be presented to each participant
-Unique addition to students’ career development
: The program offers an invaluable career experience and improves the participants’ CV
-Establishing an alumni network
: With fellow participants, more visits and invitations will be made to Korea for further exchanges

◆ What is the process?
1.Candidates submit required documents
2.Screening of submitted documents & interviews
3.Receiving the invitation, E-2 visa and Airplane ticket
4.Arriving in Korea and participating in the Orientation
5.Placement at schools
6.Teaching English and experiencing Korea
7.Reporting result
8.Returning home

◆ Required document
- A completed application form (including passport size photo)
- A personal essay
- Personal medical assessment
(* Official medical test will be done in Korea after arrival. However, contract will be cancelled if the result shows the applicant is unfit to be a English teacher.)
- A transcript (sealed)
- A reference letter
- A criminal record check
